Halfen Moment was a proud Silver Sponsor of Young Malaysians Go Classic (YMCG) II, hosted by the Malaysia Belgium Luxembourg Business Council (MBLBC), which ended successfully at Connexion @ Bangsar South on 16 November 2017.
The YMCG II, a CSR-initiative by MBLBC is all about giving the local community a chance to express themselves through music and allowing all their years of discipline and hard work to mature on a public stage. The main goal is to provide artistic exposure to local communities and future leaders.
Nearly a hundred young musicians and choir members, led by Belgian conductor Sir Dirk Brosse, brought a memorable night of music to nearly a thousand live audiences. This event was held on the occasion of the Belgian King’s Day as well as the 60th anniversary of bilateral ties between Belgium and Malaysia.
Datuk Ahmad Maslan, Vice Minister of International Trade and Industry of China, also made a speech yesterday at the opening ceremony with Belgian Ambassador Daniel Dargent and MBLBC President James De Caluwe.

With the close collaboration with IEM Malaysia, Halfen Moment Malaysia succeeded in organizing a half day seminar for the engineers from Civil and Structural Engineering Technical division. The topic conducted was focused on one of our key products, Mechanical Splices, where we presented the different types of mechanical splices available in the market, with different benefits and applications.
The speaker, Gary Connah, Managing Director of Halfen Moment Singapore covered many topics during the workshop and did an outstanding job sharing his 20 years expertise to the engineers, broadening their knowledge on how mechanical splices can play a big role in simplifying the design of reinforced concrete, speeding up construction and reducing the amount of reinforcement required.
More than 70 engineers and customers attended this seminar and Halfen Moment Malaysia would like to thank all who have attended and hope that you had a fruitful and informative session.

The AFCAB mark is to verify that the certified couplers:

3) are checked at each stage of the manufacturing.
What Are The Performed Checks?
A quality system which is based on sectorial application of the NF EN ISO 9001 standard is to be implemented in the factory. It shall in particular assure:
1) the control of the final check documents,
2) the check and the identification of the semi-finished products that may be purchased,
3) the identification of the finish products (labels and on-product marking),
4) the control of the manufacturing process,
5) the control of the conformity of the manufactured products,
6) the control of the measurement and test apparatus,
7) the control of non-conformities and corrective actions,
8) the storage of records, especially the final test documents.
The certified factory will be audited once a year to verify the implementation of the certification rules and the quality documents.

Partnering with our sister company from Germany, HALFEN, Halfen Moment Group participated in the HSR Asia 2017, a 2 days intensive international summit event in Kuala Lumpur, addressing the current challenges that countries are facing to push ahead with their high speed rail development plans. HALFEN Fastening Systems for tunnels were presented during the summit.

IBS is a construction technique whereby components are manufactured in a controlled environment, either on site or off site, and then placed and assembled into construction works. It is widely regarded as the way forward in the construction industry. It can reduce both construction time and labour costs.
“Quality is a major concern during the construction process and if there is no established system of quality certification, every initiative to increase the quality of products used on site has to be supported. The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has a crucial role here and in my experience they take this role very seriously. By having a body that focuses on (build) quality and more importantly enforces their policies, the standards and quality of the products are set to improve. With stringent quality control, potential dangers can be diminished as we control and reduce the quantity of low quality (building) supplies that make their way to (Malaysian) building sites,” says Lapon.
“I am convinced that in the long run and given the right strategy, CIDB can further elevate (the construction industry in) Malaysia. In my opinion though, there is opportunity for Malaysia and the CIDB to look at, easier to implement solutions on site that reduce the need of labour tremendously, and can increase build quality. Halfen Moment Group, for instance carry products that reduce labour by over 60% on site while increasing the quality of construction. However, these products now have to compete with cheaper low quality workarounds, and are therefore hard to introduce,” says Lapon.
Improving The Building Quality
Quality control does not end with raw material checks, it should extend to the validation of the entire product design. “Let me use an analogy. If I buy a Bentley car, the quality of the steel used in the car is crucial, but it doesn`t tell the entire story about the quality of the car. We at CRH always emphasize on high quality products which are well designed and engineered; from end-to-end,” says Lapon.

Having entered India in 2010 with a small office in Mumbai, HalfenMoment India has now expanded its footprint in India with the inauguration of a brand new office in Thane. Spread over an area of almost 12,000 square feet, the new office and production factory is located at Devdarshan Society in Thane and is geared towards scale, supporting the increasing demand in India.

Collaborations Identified with University of Malaya
Halfen Moment Malaysia is proud to host a visit from InvestKL and University of Malaya’s Civil Engineering Department today.
With 25 years of experience in the construction industry, Halfen Moment Group has always been challenging the traditional methods used. Hence, a fruitful discussion has been made with University of Malaya, on the possible collaboration of research work on a project of developing new innovative building material product, with the aim to provide solutions which are more economic and sustainable with improved productivity. On top of that, a discussion on offering internships to passionate students has also been identified.
Managing Director of CRH CA Asia, Andi Lapon said “This potential collaboration opportunity with University of Malaya will be another recognition of Halfen Moment Group in the region, Malaysia in particular, to grow our presence in the market. Building on the knowledge of Halfen Moment and University of Malaya, we hope to provide our Asian customers with a better support and tailored solutions to all building sites.”
6S Standards in Halfen Moment Singapore
Continuing the successful implementation of 6S transformation program in Halfen Moment Malaysia, the 6S program has also been implemented in Halfen Moment Singapore’s workplace to introduce the Principles of 6S and Good Manufacturing Practice. Halfen Moment Singapore went through a series of 6S activities, providing new knowledge and approach on 6S standards to the employees.
Throughout the 6S implementation for the past 5 months, Halfen Moment Singapore did undergo the first 6S quality audit in the workplace to ensure conformance to all 6S standards. The result of the audit is exceptional, where all zones have successfully passed the audit with significant improvements.
With this 6S development, we are making 6S a part of everyone’s daily life in Halfen Moment Singapore.
